Residents of Vlašići on the island of Pag knew about the existence of the existence of a ship sunk in the World War II. Thanks to the cooperation of the ecological association Volim Vlasici, the Diving Center Foka from Šimuni, and the Department of Archaeology of the University of Zadar, on 23 and 24 April 2016, the underwater survey confirmed the presence of the wreck. The official discovery and the preliminary documentation was realized in the framework of the eco action preceding the touristic season.
According to data gathered by Jurica Vučetić from Zadar, motor sailor "Sirena", under the command of Ernest Kalis, left from Rijeka on September 9, 1944 with the task to supply German troops in Dalmatia. On September 11, early in the morning, "Sirena", through Karlobag, arrived in Vlašići, and anchored in the eastern part of the bay. The double attack of the allied bombers from the airport on the island of Vis, badly damaged “Sirena” in the morning and in the afternoon, and the fire caused its sinking.
