Following the success of the 1st Underwater and Nautical Archaeology Workshop, held in September 2016, the Institute for Maritime Heritage ARS NAUTICA will provide another opportunity for theoretical and practical training in the methodology and techniques of underwater archaeological research.
The workshop will be held in the Cultural centre of the Municipality of Tkon on the island of Pašman, Croatia, from 2 to 9 September 2017. The practical training, including underwater survey, trial excavation and underwater recording will be executed on several shallow water sites between Pašman and Tkon.
The course provides the opportunity for archaeologists and students of archaeology or related sciences to acquire or improve their knowledge and proficiency. A basic certification in scuba diving is required to participate.
The course offers the possibility to obtain the NAUI certification for specialty in underwater archaeology (on request).
Accommodations will be provided in the research base of the Institute for Maritime Heritage ARS NAUTICA, Kuntrata 5, Tkon. The total cost per participant is 125 euro, which includes workshop fee, accommodations and scuba equipment rental (?). Food is not included.
The application form should be sent to ars.nautica.institute@gmail.com. The application deadline is 31 July 2017, and the workshop has a capacity of 10 participants.
